Financial contribution of adults in long-term care
Responsibility : Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec
If it is no longer possible for you to live alone at home despite receiving home assistance services due to a major loss of autonomy or physical or mental capacities, the following possibilities are available to you:
- long-term housing and care facilities (CHSLDs);
- rehabilitation centres, including drug and alcohol rehabilitation centres;
- general and specialized hospitals.
If you are admitted to a CHSLD, rehabilitation centre or hospital, you may be required to make a financial contribution for the services you receive.
The amount that the government requires as a contribution by individuals living in a care facility in Québec is determined by the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec.
The contribution covers only costs associated with accommodation and meals. Social services and health services are free of charge for all Québec residents.
