Discriminatory refusal to lease

The Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms prohibits discrimination in renting out a dwelling. The prohibited grounds for discrimination are race, color, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, civil status, age, religion, political convictions, language, ethnic or national origin, social condition, handicap or the use of any means to palliate a handicap.

"Social condition" includes the fact of receiving last resort assistance (employment assistance or social assistance) or employment insurance benefits (unemployment), or having a low income.
