Domestic help services

Responsibility : Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec

If you meet the criteria, you may be eligible for the Financial Assistance Program for Domestic Help Services. This program, which is administered by the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec, provides basic or variable financial assistance in the form of reduced hourly rates for services provided by a recognized domestic help social economy business.

Services in question:

  • light housekeeping work, such as laundering, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning (refrigerator, bathtub, pantry, etc.);

  • heavy housekeeping work, such as major cleaning jobs and clearing snow from the main access to the residence;

  • cleaning clothes;

  • preparing non-diet meals;

  • shopping for groceries and running other errands.

Flat-rate assistance
A flat rate of $4 an hour is granted to eligible service users who receive services from a recognized business. Factors such as age, health, income, or number of family members do not affect the flat rate.

Variable assistance
Assistance of up to $7 an hour is granted to persons 65 or over with a low or modest income and to persons aged 18 to 65 who have been recommended by a local community services centre (CLSC). Variable assistance is granted in addition to the flat-rate assistance.

Assistance is paid directly to the recognized business providing the domestic help services. You pay only the difference between the business's rate and the assistance granted.
