International driving permit

To drive in foreign countries, you must obtain an international driving permit, which is valid for one year. It does not replace your regular driver’s license—they are meant to be used together.

CAA-Québec is the only official authorized outlet for international driving permits in Québec.

To obtain an international driving permit
Go to a CAA-Québec service centre with the required documents. You will receive your permit right away. If you wish, you can also apply by mail.

Required documents:

• A valid driver's license (submit a photocopy with a mailed application)


• Two passport photos (in colour or black and white); the applicant must sign the back (photos are taken by the CAA, if you go in person).

Cost : $15 (add $2 for a mailed application)

Note
A Québec driver's license is all you require for travel in North America.
