A passport is the only proof of identity and citizenship that is accepted by all countries. You should check that your passport is valid before you travel outside Canada and always take it with you when you leave.
To obtain a passport
You must complete a passport application and mail it or send it by courier to the address given on the form. Applications are available on the Passport Canada Website, at all Passport Canada offices, at Service Canada centers and at Canada Post counters.
With your application, you must enclose a birth certificate issued by the Directeur de l'état civil or a certificate of citizenship.
Each country has its own conditions of entry and visa requirements. It is therefore recommended that you obtain information from your travel agent or the nearest embassy or consulate of the country you wish to visit.
